My name is Barry McCullough.

In the late 70's I applied whatever business and artistic skills I had to forming and running a commercial Design, Illustration and Photographic Studio. It was first based in Bristol in the U.K. and then in Cork, Ireland. However, the commercial world, although bringing financial success, didn't give me the deep satisfaction I enjoyed from pure art.

In 1998 I finally decided to gradually close down my commercial studios over a eight month period as I abandoned working directly with the corporate world for good.

Much soul searching, a seven month sabbatical travelling around South America and an amazing trip into the heart of the Amazon, finally convinced me to fully commit to what I had always really wanted to be - a full time writer and artist. One result of this trip is I've put up a web site offering eco Journeys and Painting workshops in the Amazon and Andes Peru. This site is called Trails of the Spirit. Another result is that I'm currently in the process of writing a book, (my second).
Focusing on being a writer/artist is extremely challenging for me in so many ways, but it's also deeply enriching and satisfying. I'm glad to have made the transition and would liked to have done it sooner, but that's life!

My art covers a number of disciplines including drawing, painting, printmaking, wood engraving and sculpture.

The book I'm working on is based on at present is about how anyone with basic skills can learn to be really good at drawing, but my book does this in an entirely new novel way.
